Musical Fidelity: M8xTT Turntable
Musical Fidelity has created the M8xTT turntable, which follows the same concepts and radical innovations as the M1 model released in the early 2000s. Heinz Lichtenegger, the current owner of Musical Fidelity, has in fact applied the same design philosophy as its predecessor, improving it with today's knowledge and materials.
M8xTT High-End Turntable
Musical Fidelity founder Antony Michaelson's idea of music was warm and powerful, with detail and nuance. His creations, especially amplifiers, are an expression of this sonic characteristic. In 2002 Antony asked Heinz Lichtenegger, owner of Pro-Ject, to help him create a turntable that implemented all these characteristics. Furthermore, the design was very important and had to match the mechanically extraordinary amplifiers. The Musical Fidelity M1 was born, and it was a great success. The basic idea was to combine the inert mass of metal alloys with zero-resonance acrylic. The motor was effectively decoupled from the tonearm and platter by the double chassis construction. The new M8xTT follows the same design philosophy with even more extreme technical features.

The tonearm - The 10" tonearm is a new Musical Fidelity design with ultra-low resonance and a carbon-fibre tone ring. clear acrylic stand and tapered aluminum arm tube. The arm is fully adjustable for VTA and Azimuth and comes with two counterweights allowing it to be used with cartridges from 6 to 20g. The counterweights are TPE damped to avoid resonances. Both unbalanced RCA and balanced XLR outputs are located on the rear, giving maximum flexibility in choosing your phono stage.
The Motor and Platter - The motor is housed in a custom-made, foam-damped recess in the lower level acrylic deck, to better decouple it from the platter and arm. Speed is electronically controlled and a push of a button switches between 33 and 45 rpm. A silicone belt connects the motor to the platter, which is split and made of aluminum with internal inserts and damped peripherally with TPE.
The feet - Four heavy aluminum feet with magnetic support, damped with TPE, connect the two acrylic levels, aided by centrally positioned Teflon spacers. They can be adjusted in height by rotating their central part, to level the turntable.
In the box - The turntable comes with some very interesting accessories such as: a heavy aluminum disc stop to stabilize the records during playback and obtain the best possible tracking. A leather mat that stabilizes the vinyl on the platter and characterizes it from a sonical point of view. To connect the M8xTT to the preamp, a semi-balanced phono connection cable with gold-plated connectors is also included.
