Subchassis Turntable with 9" Carbon/Aluminium Sandwich Tonearm - The Classic Meets the 175 VPO to Merge Design Ideas

The new Classic Evo is based on the EISA Award-winning Pro-Ject The Classic. The main improvement is the sub-platter, where we have used the experience gained from designing the 175 – Vienna Philharmonic Recordplayer to add tonal changes to the Classic Evo. The main bearing construction we use is a similar system to that of the Vienna Philharmonic Recordplayer. For added convenience, an electronic speed change has been integrated, allowing you to switch from 33 to 45 rpm (and vice versa) at the touch of a button. Compared to the old Classic, we have improved the sub-chassis; we have tried to make it heavier and more rigid to reduce resonances. The aim is to isolate the platter and tonearm from the resonances of the motor and main plinth. The heavy aluminium main platter construction uses advanced thermoplastic elastomers (TPE) to optimise resonance behaviour.

The tonearm tube is a carbon and aluminium sandwich: carbon for stiffness and speed, aluminium for improved damping. The bearing has been upgraded to the same type used on our Pro-Ject CC EVO tonearms. It facilitates friction-free vertical and horizontal movement, ensuring precise tracking throughout the life of the record. The counterweight incorporates a TPE damper* which allows us to reduce the tonearm cartridge's resonant frequency amplitude by 50%. As is typical for Pro-Ject, we also offer azimuth and VTA adjustment to accommodate a variety of cartridges.

We supply the Pick it 2M Silver cartridge as standard. Since the tonearm also offers excellent damping and flexibility, its effective mass can be described as medium-heavy, making it a great partner for MC cartridges.
