Louis Poulsen Ph 5 Retake Chandelier 50 cm raw

Designing lamps that stand the test of time has been a core principle of Louis Poulsen since his collaboration with lighting design genius Poul Henningsen in the 1920s. To strengthen this 100-year tradition today, Louis Poulsen is studying how to further extend the lifespan of the products. A firm believer in the importance of recycling and upcycling, Louis Poulsen is constantly working on new ways to reuse products and materials, including transforming faulty products into stylish new lamps, such as the raw PH 5 Retake based on the classic bestseller PH 5 The process of transitioning from a vintage or imperfect PH 5 with a dent or slight irregularities on the surface, to a one-of-a-kind PH 5 Retake, involves removing the paint from each suspension. In this way, the aesthetics of the aluminum screens and the lower steel screen in different rough shades are highlighted. The PH 5 Retake is finally coated with dry lubrication to protect the metal parts. The metal, which is not further treated, will take on an elegant patina over time, giving each pendant its characteristic expression.

Lighting system

The luminaire provides comfortable, glare-free light, based on the three-system principle reflective screens by Poul Henningsen which directs most of the light downwards. It emits light in a horizontal direction, as well as illuminating by diffusing a soft radiance from within its core. The luminaire is a reinterpretation of the classic PH 5 without all the previous painting, for a raw and intact appearance. The internal bare metal screens give the light a particularly delicate reflection for a warm and welcoming environment. The bottom screen also features frosted diffuser glass to ensure that the downward-facing light is 100% glare-free.

Finish

After removing the previous paint, the metal surface has a rough appearance. As a result of the paint stripping process, the aluminum surface finish naturally varies between darker and lighter tones. The lower steel screen has a different surface and may occasionally show rust.

Information

Small irregularities, knots and dents may be present on the screens. The metal surface is treated with dry lubrication to avoid further patina. The lower steel screen will corrode over time unless further treated. If preferred, periodic dry lubrication will help maintain the original finish of the raw metal.
