The AJ Royal is part of the designs created by Arne Jacobsen in 1957 for the SAS Royal Hotel in Copenhagen (Radisson Collection). Here it can be found in the copper version above the tables of the bar behind the atrium, in the lounge on the first floor and in the Panorama Lounge on the 21st floor. The hotel was opened in 1960 and with its 22 floors it was the first real skyscraper in Copenhagen, inspired by those in New York. At the time, the lamp was simply called the AJ Pendant. The segmented spherical shape of 1957 is regarded as Jacobsen's first steps towards a return to the basic geometric shapes that characterize the famous Danish architect's latest creations. The AJ Royal was part of an overall design project specifically developed by Jacobsen for the hotel of which a series of projects helped make it iconic. Jacobsen not only designed the hotel down to the last detail for SAS (Scandinavian Airlines), but also contributed to the design of almost all of the original furnishings and service accessories. The lamps are probably the best known worldwide, including the AJ from 1957. The AJ Royal was originally produced in three colours: light grey, dark brown and black. The AJ Royal is available in white, in its two original sizes. A smaller version was introduced in 2020 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the hotel's opening, at the same time as the series is reintroduced in black. The AJ Royal maintains its classic and more pronounced graphic appearance to illuminate a dining table, an office or a showroom, where it guarantees uniform and perfect downward lighting while creating the atmosphere in any environment with its soft light directed upwards.

Lighting system

The suspension is available in three sizes and is characterized by ridges on the top that let a light light filter upwards. All three sizes of the new energy-saving LED version are equipped with a diffuser for 100% glare-free lighting.
