Enigma 425 was designed by Japanese designer Shoichi Uchiyama in 2003. Shoichi Uchiyama presented a new design for Louis Poulsen which deconstructed the traditional concept of a chandelier by proposing a version with thin layers of concentric circles. These are floating screens held by ultra-thin cables for a light and transparent effect. The name enigma stands for “mystery” and refers to the screens that appear to hover when illuminated and viewed from a distance. The idea was in tune with Louis Poulsen's product philosophy and was also a new interpretation of the multi-screen system, where Japanese elegance combined with Scandinavian simplicity. In 2018, the original aluminum lamp was joined by the new black edition which expands the decorative possibilities of the design and creates a serene and atmospheric visual effect, while the light is shaped and channeled.
Lighting system
The luminaire emits a glare-free, soft and comfortable light directed downwards. The screen design ensures uniform surface illumination. The matt upper surface diffuses the light, while the glossy lower surface guarantees optimal reflection.
