The PH 3½-2½ Glass Tavolo lamp, designed in 1928, represents one of the many innovative projects undertaken by Poul Henningsen in 1926 to develop his world-famous three-screen system. Poul Henningsen dedicated much of his life to studying electric light. Its three-screen design, based on the litho, or logarithmic spiral, was intended to optimize the use of the light source. His studies are the result of numerous calculations and tests. The shape of the screens is linked to the way the light was to be shaped and reflected. Furthermore, the lamp has been designed to diffuse glare-free lighting. The first PH table lamp was produced in early 1927 and was launched as an alternative to low-pitch pendant lamps. The opal white glass screens soften the overall appearance of the lamp and illuminate the surrounding area with that perfect, harmonious and anti-glare light that only the classic three-screen system is able to offer. The screens are made of three-layer opaline glass, polished on the upper surface and sandblasted and satin-finished on the lower surface, to create a soft and uniform light distribution.

System of lighting

The luminaire was designed according to the principle of three reflective screens which direct most of the light downwards. The screens are made of three-layer blown opaline glass, polished in the upper part and matt sandblasted in the lower part in such a way as to distribute a soft and diffused light.

Poul Henningsen (1894-1967), Danish designer, architect, writer and cultural critic hugely influential, he had a huge impact on Danish thinking and design. His legacy as an original master of light is an integral part of Louis Poulsen's tradition of creating exceptional light.
