The NJP series was designed by Oki Sato, founder of the nendo design studio, with the aim of creating a new interpretation of the classic corner lamp – with all its familiar details – in a contemporary design, with functions adapted to modern working life, both in the office and at home. The flexible head and arms of the NJP Wall lamp offer exceptional adjustability, a feature not always found in standard wall lamps. This makes the NJP very suitable for bedrooms, especially where height-adjustable beds make it difficult to position a fixed wall lamp. It features an LED light source, positioned high up on the lamp to avoid glare and unpleasant illumination. A refined and practical detail is its chimney-shaped head, which reflects part of the light back, illuminating the upper section of the arm and allowing the heat from the light source to dissipate. In 2022, a new version of the NJP Parete is introduced, with a wall box that allows the lamp to be mounted directly onto the power outlet. The wall box was designed by nendo and follows the same shape as the base of the table and floor lamp with a trapezoid, narrowing from the front towards the wall. It pairs with NJP products for a slim, modern look.

Lighting system

The luminaire provides direct, glare-free horizontal light and over time reflects some of the light through the back of the head, illuminating the upper part of the arm. The ergonomic design of the luminaire head shapes the light for optimal orientation. A simple mechanical system ensures maximum freedom of movement, so that the light is always set in the ideal position in the workspace. The inside of the screen is painted white and reflects a comfortable diffused light.

NENDO - OKI SATO

In 2002, Oki Sato founded the design studio nendo. Nendo means “clay” in Japanese, or more specifically, the modeling of clay such as plasticine. A unique material that makes creative modeling easy.

As Oki Sato explains: “The name is fitting for a studio that has to develop design solutions for a very diverse set of clients.” Oki Sato does not look at design like many iconic designers, who have focused on the mantra “form follows function.” Behind the product and its design, he also looks for the story.

His expression is minimalist, but contains some signals and details that bring out memories. He uses soft and pleasant shapes that make his design comfortable at first glance.
