The VL Studio family has its origins in a lamp designed by architect Vilhelm Lauritzen for Radiohuset (The Radio House, the headquarters of the Danish Broadcasting Corporation) in Copenhagen in the 1940s. The name "Studio" was chosen because some of the lamps were used outside the studio to indicate - with a red or green light - whether recording was in progress. Vilhelm Lauritzen was the architect of the Radiohuset, which opened in its functionalist design in 1945. The Radiohuset is a "work of art" like most of Lauritzen's buildings and he designed all the interiors and every last detail for the project. During the Radiohuset, Lauritzen designed an extensive collection of lamps in close collaboration with Louis Poulsen. For this project, Lauritzen created the Studio lamp, the VL 38 table lamp (VL38), the Radiohus pendant (VL45) and the VL Ring Crown lamps. Since their creation in the 1940s, the lamps have been produced by Louis Poulsen. Over the years, all lamps have been discontinued. The VL45 (Radiohus pendant) and VL38 (original table lamp from the building interior) were reintroduced in 2016, the VL Ring Crown in 2019 and most recently the VL Studio lamp in 2022. The VL Studio lamp is closely related to the Radiohus pendant; both create diffused light through opal glass that casts a pleasant glow around the lamp. True to its original materials and design with minor modifications, the VL Studio Wall lamp was reintroduced in 2022. It is made of lightly brushed polished brass with mouth-blown three-layer polished white opal glass. The VL Studio table/floor lamp is also available in a matt black version for a more graphic and clean expression compared to the soft and warm look of the polished brass version. With its simple, elegant and refined materials, the VL Studio Parete lamp adds a modern touch and a warm atmosphere to any interior.
Lighting system
The luminaire emits a diffused, glare-free light. The three-layer opal glass makes the area around the luminaire comfortable and uniform. The lampshade can be tilted 90 degrees to the right or left to allow flexible distribution of light.

Vilhelm Lauritzen
Vilhelm Lauritzen (1894–1984) was one of the most influential architects in Danish history and a symbol of the avant-garde of Danish functionalism. Some of his buildings, the Nørrebro Theatre (1931–32), the Daells Varehus department store (1928–35), the Radiohuset (1936–41) and the first Kastrup Airport (1937–39), represented the concentrated essence of contemporary life. Other important buildings designed by Lauritzen include the Folkets Hus (1953–56) better known today as the Vega concert hall, the Shellhuset building (1950–51) and the Danish Embassy in Washington (1958–60). In particular, the Radiohuset building and the earlier version of Kastrup Airport – both classified as historic buildings – are considered unmistakable monuments of modernism as a European building genre.
