Louis Poulsen Ph Artichoke Chandelier 60 cm stainless steel

In 1958, Poul Henningsen created the PH Artichoke for the Langelinie Pavilion, a modernist restaurant in Copenhagen, where, even today, the PH Artichoke continues to surprise guests and is considered an icon of international design. The distinctive shape and design of this pendant ensures completely glare-free light regardless of the angle from which it is viewed. This is due to the careful positioning of the 72 plates which also inspired its name. The partial hand assembly of the PH Artichoke is still a guarantee of high quality today. Yes, it's true it takes up a lot of space, but the quality of light and elegance are truly unparalleled. Its very famous illuminating part is still available today in the original copper finish. Over time, versions in brushed and polished steel, brass and white metal have been added which continue to enhance the versatility and timeless silhouette of this pendant. The PH Artichoke Nero was introduced in 2020. Featuring a flawless matte black finish, this version emphasizes bolder interior looks without compromising design or light quality.

Lighting system

With its 72 blades forming 12 precisely positioned rows and holding six blades each, the suspension illuminates every space with glare-free light at 100%. The luminaire guarantees comfortable and impactful light distribution, both internally and externally. The high quality of light is also maintained in the energy-efficient LED variant which creates the same beautiful atmosphere around the suspension.

Materials Foils: laser cut brass, copper or stainless steel. Upper screen: white or black, drawn steel, white on the bottom. Frame: polished chrome, laser cut steel. Suspension: bright chrome plated, pulled aluminium.

Poul Henningsen (1894-1967), designer, architect, writer and Extremely influential Danish cultural critic, he had a huge impact on Danish thought and design. His legacy as an original master of light is an integral part of Louis Poulsen's tradition of creating exceptional light.

DESIGNED IN 1958

When Poul Henningsen designed the iconic PH Artichoke for the Langelinie Pavillonen restaurant in Copenhagen in 1958, he had chosen solid copper leaves with a pink finish on the inside. The combination gave the organic form extraordinary warmth and elegantly reflected light from the PH Artichoke light source. To commemorate Poul Henningsen's birthday, Louis Poulsen launches the PH Artichoke with the same original materials and finishes.
