Louis Poulsen Ph Artichoke chandelier 60 cm copper

In 1958, Poul Henningsen created the PH Artichoke for the Langelinie Pavilion, a modernist restaurant in Copenhagen, where, to this day, the PH Artichoke continues to amaze guests and is considered an icon of international design. The distinctive shape and design of this pendant ensures completely glare-free light regardless of the angle from which it is viewed. This is due to the careful positioning of the 72 leaves that also inspired its name. The partial hand-assembly of the PH Artichoke is still a guarantee of high quality today. Yes, it takes up a lot of space, but the quality of light and elegance are truly unmatched. Its very famous lighting part is still available today in the original copper finish. Over time, versions in brushed and polished steel, brass and white metal have been added, which continue to enhance the versatility and timeless silhouette of this pendant. The PH Artichoke Nero was introduced in 2020. Featuring a perfect matt black finish, this version accentuates bolder interior looks without compromising on design or light quality.

Lighting system

With its 72 blades forming 12 precisely positioned rows and holding six blades each, the pendant illuminates any space with 100% glare-free light. The fixture ensures comfortable and impactful light distribution, both inwards and outwards. The high quality of light is also maintained in the energy-efficient LED variant which creates the same beautiful atmosphere around the pendant.

POUL HENNINGSEN

Poul Henningsen (1894-1967), a hugely influential Danish designer, architect, writer and cultural critic, had a huge impact on Danish thinking and design. His legacy as an original master of light is an integral part of Louis Poulsen's tradition of creating exceptional light.

DESIGNED IN 1958

When Poul Henningsen designed the iconic PH Artichoke for the Langelinie Pavillonen restaurant in Copenhagen in 1958, he chose solid copper leaves with a pink finish on the inside. The combination gave the organic shape an extraordinary warmth and elegantly reflected light from the PH Artichoke's light source. To mark Poul Henningsen's birthday, Louis Poulsen is launching the PH Artichoke with the same original materials and finishes.
