Louis Poulsen Ph 4/3 table lamp 45 cm white

The VL38 table lamp was designed in the late 1930s by Vilhelm Lauritzen in collaboration with Louis Poulsen for the construction of the Radiohuset building (home of Danish radio broadcasts) in Copenhagen (currently home to the Royal Danish Academy of Music ). The VL38 and the VL45 suspension version, both designed for the Radiohuset, were produced by Louis Poulsen after the Second World War, in the mid-1940s. The VL38 in the white/brass version was reissued in autumn 2016. In keeping with advances in lighting technology and energy efficiency, the luminaires were equipped with LEDs. The black version of the VL38, introduced in autumn 2017, has a sharper profile than the original white version, yet retains the beloved retro look and “soft and curved” appearance of the original design.

Lighting system

The luminaire emits light directed downwards. The angle of the screen can be adjusted to optimize light distribution. The screen is painted white on the inside to ensure soft and pleasant lighting.

Vilhelm Lauritzen (1894-1984) is one of the most significant Danish architects; he was the pioneer of Danish functionalism. Many of its buildings, including the Nørrebro theater, the Daells Varehus department store, the Radiohuset and the first airport built in Kastrup, represented the concentrated essence of contemporary life.
