JBL L42ms All-in-one audio system
The new JBL L42ms aims to be a more compact and accessible alternative to the already well-known JBL L75ms, therefore a single speaker that contains four speakers for stereo diffusion, with a fan shape that improves sound dispersion and broadens the front stereo image; all already amplified and very versatile in terms of wired or wireless sources, including the HDMI ARC input which can transform it into an excellent soundbar. The aesthetic is undoubtedly JBL, with a wooden cabinet with a choice of black or natural walnut finish completed by the classic Quadrex black spongy grille with embossed squares.
Compared to the already well-known older brother, the new L42ms measures 62x16x23 cm (WxHxD), therefore more demanding in positioning than a classic soundbar but ideal in the case of TVs fixed to the wall, even large ones. The wireless connections include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.2, full compatibility with AirPlay 2 and Chromecast and the main streaming services. It is also certified Roon Ready. Network access is also possible in wired form, via the rear Ethernet socket.
For the physical inputs we find a stereo RCA and a 3.5mm mini-jack, as well to HDMI ARC that accepts stereo PCM audio. For remote control of the speaker, a remote control or the dedicated JBL Premium application is available which is already set up for the major streaming services. Local control is possible via a keypad on the top panel of the cabinet. While to control the musical performance in the room you can activate the option that expands the sound field and there is also a Contour control that decreases the bass output by 3dB if the speaker is very close to the rear wall.
< p>Going into more technical details, the speaker uses a two-way stereo system with a 10cm mid-woofer with white paper cone and a 2cm aluminum dome tweeter with waveguide. The speaker loading is a double reflex arrangement located on the rear panel. The power delivered is 2 x 75 Watts RMS to the mid-woofers and 2 x 25 Watts RMS to the tweeters, for a total system power of 200W in class D. The internal D/A converter is 24bit/96kHz.
