The NJP series was designed by Oki Sato, founder of the design studio nendo, with the aim of creating a new interpretation of the classic corner lamp – with all its familiar details – in a contemporary design, with functions adapted to modern working life, both in the office and at home. The flexible head and arms of the NJP floor lamp offer exceptional adjustability, a feature not always found in standard floor lamps. Since the flexible design allows the lamp to be easily adjusted for optimal lighting, the NJP is particularly suitable for use as a reading lamp, positioned next to an armchair or sofa. It features an LED light source, positioned high up on the lamp to avoid glare and unpleasant illumination. A refined and practical detail is its “chimney” shaped head that reflects part of the light back, illuminating the upper section of the arm and allowing the heat of the light source to dissipate.

Lighting system

The luminaire provides direct, glare-free horizontal light, while at the same time reflecting part of the light back through the head, illuminating the upper part of the arm. The ergonomic design of the luminaire head gives the light its shape and gives it optimal directionality. A simple mechanical system ensures great freedom of movement, so that the light is always set in the ideal position in the workspace. The lampshade is painted white on the inside, which produces a pleasant, diffused reflection of light.

NENDO - OKI SATO

In 2002, Oki Sato founded the design studio nendo. Nendo means “clay” in Japanese, or more specifically, the modeling of clay such as plasticine. A unique material that makes creative modeling easy.

As Oki Sato explains: “The name is fitting for a studio that has to develop design solutions for a range of very different clients.” Oki Sato does not look at design like many iconic designers, who have focused on the mantra “form follows function.” Behind the product and its design, he also looks for the story.

His expression is minimalist, but contains some signals and details that bring out memories. He uses soft and pleasant shapes that make his design comfortable at first glance.
