Poul Henningsen created the three-screen system in 1925-26. The first lights to use this system were designed by PH in collaboration with Louis Poulsen for an exhibition in Paris. This collaboration continued until his death in 1967. Throughout his life, PH sought to achieve glare-free, direct lighting where it was needed most, creating soft shadows with incandescent bulbs as the source. The PH 80 is part of the three-screen PH family. PH has therefore not just designed a lamp, but an entire system: over the years, around a thousand different models have been produced. PH was the first to pursue a scientific approach of enlightenment and use the logarithmic spiral as the basis. By taking advantage of the logarithmic spiral design, it achieved uniform light distribution across the entire curvature of the screen. This uniform distribution of light, combined with diffuse reflection through the glass, allowed glare and shadow to be controlled. Given its distance from the light source, each screen reduces the amount of light equally. The PH 80 is based on the same three-screen design centered around the logarithmic spiral. PH80, the lamp model number, does not refer to the diameter of the upper screen, as is normally the case in the system that applies three-screen models. The lamp was created in 1974 after PH's death to celebrate 80 years since his birth - hence the name PH 80. The original PH 80, designed in 1974, features a distinctive red top reflector that casts warm, atmospheric. The opal acrylic screens give a light appearance and emit a diffused and captivating light into the environment. The PH 80 was later presented in the version with a black and white finish and a smoother surface on the base compared to the slightly rougher surface of the classic PH 80 version. The black PH 80 has a black top plate and a white top reflector for an elegant and sharp look and a pleasant light distribution. The stand and lamp holder are matte black and add an elegant contrast to the opal acrylic screens and a more graphic look. The white version adds a minimalist all-white design to the PH 80 range with a white top reflector, top plate and stand. The monochromatic palette completes the PH 80 series with modern and elegant alternatives to the classic PH 80.

Lighting system

L The fixture diffuses a soft, reflected and symmetrical light. Most of the light is directed downwards and the opal acrylic screens illuminate the environment comfortably. The red hue of the top reflector on the original fixture adds a rich, warm glow to the light. The black and white fixtures have a white top reflector that reflects the light and gives a sleek, crisp look. The choice of light source will determine the color of the lighting.
