The glass version of PH Artichoke dates back to 1927-31, when Poul Henningsen designed a glass pendant lamp called PH Septima with seven types of shade, which was produced by Louis Poulsen until 1940, when it went out of production due to shortages of material during the war. In 1958 Poul Henningsen was asked to design a lamp for the Langelinie Pavillonen restaurant, a commission he completed in three months, as PH Artichoke is based on the ideas behind PH Septima. PH Septima consisted of seven clear sandblasted glass shades in six backgrounds. PH Artichoke had shades divided into “saw teeth”, as Poul Henningsen called them, and was made of copper. PH Artichoke Glass, handmade and sandblasted, has a similar expression to PH Septima. The soft light spreads through the leaves, to produce a soft, comfortable illumination. Whether switched on or off, the lamp has an "ice look" that adds a touch of elegance and brightness to any room.
Lighting system
The luminaire emits 100% glare-free light. The 72 precisely positioned blades form 12 unique rows of six blades each and illuminate the luminaire, as well as emitting diffused light with a unique pattern. The reflection from the source is diffused into the sandblasted lower surfaces and this light is reflected decoratively onto the upper surfaces, giving the luminaire a unique luminosity. The surface treatment on the glass blades eliminates direct glare. For the energy-saving LED variant, the quality of light and the atmosphere around the product are maintained at a maximum level.
