Poul Henningsen designed his first lamps in 1925-1926 for an exhibition in Paris. His work with Louis Poulsen continued until his death in 1967. Throughout his life, Poul Henningsen sought to achieve glare-free, direct lighting in key areas, creating soft shadows with incandescent bulbs as the light source. Poul Henningsen designed the Snowball in 1958; the lamp was exhibited together with the PH 5 at the Museum of Decorative Arts in Denmark. However, the Snowball did not receive much attention at its launch and was redesigned and reintroduced to the market in 1983.
Lighting system
The luminaire emits comfortable, glare-free, diffused light. The matt painted lower surfaces and the glossy upper surfaces express themselves in an attractive reflection of the diffused light that creates an even distribution of light around the luminaire. When the light is switched on, the upper part is illuminated while the lower part remains dark.
