Louis Poulsen Vl38 black bedside table lamp

The VL38 table lamp was designed in the late 1930s by Vilhelm Lauritzen in collaboration with Louis Poulsen for the Radiohuset building in Copenhagen (now the Royal Danish Academy of Music). The VL38 and the pendant version VL45, both designed for the Radiohuset, were produced by Louis Poulsen after the Second World War, in the mid-1940s. The VL38 in the white/brass version was reissued in autumn 2016. In keeping with advances in lighting technology and energy efficiency, the luminaires have been fitted with LEDs. The black version of the VL38, introduced in autumn 2017, has a more pronounced profile than the original white version, but it retains the popular retro look and the “soft and curvy” look of the original design.

Lighting system

The fixture emits direct light downwards. The angle of the shade can be adjusted to optimise the distribution of light. The shade is painted white on the inside to ensure a soft and pleasant light.

VILHELM LAURITZEN

Vilhelm Lauritzen (1894-1984) is one of the most significant Danish architects; he was the pioneer of Danish functionalism. Many of his buildings, including the Nørrebro Theatre, the Daells Varehus department store, the Radiohuset and the first airport built in Kastrup, represented the concentrated essence of contemporary life.
