Vpi ADS Analog Drive System

The VPI Analog Drive System, or ADS, is a high-tech speed selection device for 33 1/3 and 45 RPM LP playback. It is free of digital-based electronics and is an update to VPI's renowned SDS motor drive system, providing dramatically natural and easily audible musical presentations. However, it should be noted that the ADS is not compatible with turntables equipped with an external or wall-mounted power supply. If you cannot directly connect an IEC power cord to your VPI turntable, the ADS will not work. This is a true revolution in vinyl listening as the 'purification' of the AC power leads to dramatic improvements such as deeper bass, smoother mids, sweeter highs, lower noise, more three-dimensional imaging and a greater sense of air and solidity in the soundstage. This is because the AC sine wave regeneration eliminates power line noise and harmonics, providing a pure, uniform AC power supply to the turntable motor. The ADS unfiltered speed accuracy is measured at +/- 0.01Hz / 0.003%, in other words, its accuracy is truly unmatched, creating a greater sense of listening ease that is especially noticeable in dynamic passages. Finally, it provides the ability to perform extraordinarily precise calibration of the platter speed via knobs for very fine adjustment of both the 33 and 45 RPM settings. The ADS is also compatible with non-VPI turntables with the same excellent results, even owners of turntables with very heavy platters can rest assured that the ADS applies full power for eight seconds upon start-up, allowing even the heaviest platters to quickly come up to speed. This device uses a high current linear power supply to provide the precise voltage and high current required by the motor amplifier. A powerful Class A/B amplifier provides drive for the motor and separate 33 and 45 rpm oscillator controls regulate speed with a factory-calibrated center detent position set to exactly 60/81 Hz (33/45 rpm). With a strobe disc, any speed adjustment needed can be implemented quickly and easily.
