Louis Poulsen Ph 4/3 Suspension lamp 40 cm white

Poul Henningsen designed the three-shade system in 1925-1926. The first lights to use this system were designed by Poul Henningsen in collaboration with Louis Poulsen for an exhibition in Paris. His work with Louis Poulsen continued until his death in 1967. Throughout his life, Poul Henningsen sought to achieve glare-free, direct lighting in key areas, creating soft shadows with incandescent bulbs as the light source. The PH 4/3 Pendant in metal was launched in 1966. Its design follows the three-shade system based on the lituus or logarithmic spiral, with the middle section of the light source positioned in the centre of the spiral. This luminaire is a simplification of the PH lamp designed in 1929. The lamp earned him the highest distinction at the Barcelona World Exhibition of the time. The metal pendant lamps were produced in many sizes and colours but the lower part of the shade was always painted white to provide diffused light. To achieve a warmer lighting, for a short time, the metal pendant lamps were also made with the lower part coated in gold. The metal pendant lamps were produced in many sizes and colours over the years.

Lighting system

The luminaire was designed according to the principle of three reflective shades that direct most of the light downwards. The shades are made of metal and painted white to ensure even and comfortable light distribution.

Poul Henningsen (1894-1967), an extremely influential Danish designer, architect, writer and cultural critic, had an enormous impact on Danish thought and design. His legacy as an original master of light is an integral part of Louis Poulsen's tradition of creating exceptional light.
