Design

The Stellar S300 stereo power amplifier is a dual mono amplifier capable of effortlessly driving demanding loudspeakers at concert levels. It combines the best of two worlds: ultra-linear, high-current Class D technology for the output stage; and an analog Class A MOSFET circuit for the all-important input stage. The S300's design combines the best of two worlds: an ultra-linear, high-current output power stage with a discrete, MOSFET-based Class-A AnalogCell input stage. Designed by PS Audio engineer Darren Myers, who invested hundreds of hours in fine-tuning, equalization, and meticulous tweaking, the result is remarkably musical. The Analog Cell

The connection between preamplifier and power amplifier is critical, as it is at this junction that most essential musical detail is at risk of being lost. No element of power amplifier design is more critical than the input stage for preserving the music's finest nuances. In the S300, a unique topology, called the Analog Cell, has been employed to preserve the richness of musical detail. The Analog Cell is the beating heart of the S300's musicality, where the music's rich, overlapping layers of inner detail are preserved even in the most complex orchestral crescendos. The Analog Cell is a proprietary, fully differential, zero-feedback, discrete MOSFET Class A circuit, hand-tuned to capture the smallest microdynamics without sacrificing the most intense macrodynamics music has to offer. The Analog Cell makes all the difference.

Output Stage

The Stellar S300 is a dual mono amplifier. This means that each channel has its own separate power supply. Each of the two channels features a complete, independent power supply and power amplifier stage, based on a modern Danish-designed ICE Class D module. The Class D output stages offer near-perfect linearity, low distortion, and high efficiency. Because Class D amplifiers require an output filter to eliminate switching noise, they do not reach extreme frequencies in the hundreds of thousands of Hertz range. Depending on the design, modern Class D amplifiers, like those used in the Stellar, extend high frequencies up to about 50 kHz. The limit of human hearing is 20 kHz, although most listeners rarely exceed that value. The S300 offers excellent frequency response, low distortion, high efficiency, high damping factor and a powerful 300 watts per channel output into the most common 4Ω speaker loads.
