The Onkyo M-80 power amplifier uses a three-stage inverted Darlington amplifier. This three-stage inverted Darlington amplifier has a very low output impedance and powerfully drives speakers with high current. Furthermore, by keeping negative feedback (NFB) low, it is immune to unwanted noise from the speakers, delivering powerful yet extremely detailed and information-rich sound. The M-80's output stage transistors are configured in parallel, ensuring excellent instantaneous current delivery capability, further enhancing the spaciousness of the sound and the sense of power. The M-80 amplifier's drive stage uses DIDRC (Dynamic Intermodulation Distortion Reduction Circuitry), which reduces noise in the ultra-high frequency range thanks to DIDRC's High Slew Rate design and helps reproduce the natural sound of an analog record.
Cutting-Edge Components, Compelling Reproduction
The Onkyo M-80 power amplifier features a custom, high-current power supply to deliver dynamic, full-range sound and an extruded aluminum heat sink that suppresses vibration. The addition of high-quality 10,000uF capacitors custom-made exclusively for Onkyo, Hi-Fi-grade terminals (for both speaker output and audio input), copper bus bars, and a sturdy, anti-vibration front panel ensure powerful, world-class reproduction.
The M-80's enclosure consists of two aluminum side panels and a steel top panel. This three-piece structure increases rigidity and improves seismic resistance, for superior overall sound quality.
Build Your Perfect System
The M-80 has an output power of 130 W (8 Ω, 20 Hz - 20 kHz, THD 0.07%, 2-channel driven) / 200 W (4 Ω, 1 kHz, THD 0.7%, 2-channel driven), allowing it to powerfully drive large speakers and deliver dynamic acoustic information. For example, Klipsch Forte speakers paired with the P-80 and M-80 would maximize the Forte's dynamic and expansive sound.
From Onkyo Academy: The Benefits of a Power Amplifier
A power amplifier takes the signal from the preamplifier and literally feeds it to the speakers. Think of the preamp as the brains and the power amplifier as the brawn. Separating the amplifiers into preamps and power amplifiers offers maximum flexibility in audio reproduction. Furthermore, because they are not influenced by each other's circuitry, they can deliver high-resolution sound quality thanks to even cleaner signal transmission. Audiophiles are known to favor specific power amplifiers for the way they affect sound quality and coloration. The M-80 is a power amplifier that reproduces the full range of artists' intentions in their music and transports you to a world of emotion.
