The heart of the DA215 is a superb D/A converter with multiple S/PDIF inputs, PCM and DSD capability using the ES9018 Reference 32-bit DAC in quad-mono, 8 mono to 2 stereo configuration. By combining four in-phase and four reverse-phase converters per channel, the statistical properties of the signals are exploited; the signal power of the phases is correlated and adds constructively, while the noise power of the phases is decorrelated, improving the signal-to-noise ratio of the resulting analog waveform.
The Class A buffering technology of the analog filter sections is borrowed from the acclaimed Copland CD players and consists of discrete transistors that produce extraordinary sound quality with unlimited mobility and acceleration.
The DA215 incorporates 160311_Copland_63423an asynchronous USB input, tree-type S/PDIF digital inputs, an analog input, two analog outputs (fixed and variable) and a complete preamplifier with analog volume control and headphone output on the front panel with vacuum tube gain stages.
You can use the DAC215 for headphone playback. However, you can also use it as a high-end preamplifier with volume control, using the RCA outputs of the amplifier. Volume control and preamp functionality can be bypassed for pure DAC mode.
The DA215 USB input implementation is one of the most advanced available, with USB 2.0 PCM 24/32-bit data transfer at 384kHz, including native DSD64 and high-resolution DSD128. The input is converted to i2s and fed directly to the DAC chip.
Once connected, the 160311_Copland_63428 1computer recognises the DAC and routes digital audio data through it, bypassing the source device's internal audio circuitry.
The asynchronous USB-B port connects to the computer's USB-A port. No power is drawn from the computer. The regulated power supply for the USB input section has its own power transformer winding, and the noisy computer line is completely cut off by the use of digital isolators.
