"Why not make a modern version of the old English club chair?" With this inspiration, Charles Eames began developing the Lounge Chair over a creative process that lasted many years. The aim was to satisfy the desire for a generously proportioned chair that combined absolute comfort with the highest quality materials and workmanship. The chair designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1956 set new standards: not only was it lighter, more elegant, and more modern than the traditional, bulky club chair, but it was also more comfortable. Thanks to these qualities, the Lounge Chair became one of the most famous designs by Charles and Ray Eames and has acquired the status of a classic in the history of modern furniture.

Material description

Seat and backrest: Santos rosewood (Brazil; certified sustainability)

Upholstery/cover: Removable cushion made of recyclable polyurethane foam «V-Foam», removable leather cover.

Seat height: 380 mm (250 mm with applied load, measured in accordance with EN 1335-1:2000).

Armrests: Upholstered with recyclable polyurethane foam «V-Foam», removable leather covers. Attached to the seat and backrest shell with shock-absorbing joints (rubber and metal fittings).

Base: Five-star base or non-swivel four-star base (Ottoman). Both base and backrest supports are made of die-cast aluminum.

Glides: All bases are equipped with rigid glides for carpet; felt-insert glides for hard floors are available upon request.
