PMG Signature SACD Transport
Your CD and SACD collection holds a treasure trove of music you've never really heard. How do we know? Because we, like you, know every note of our reference records, and we were amazed when we heard them through the new PMG Signature SACD player.
This isn't just any player. It's the best optical disc player we've made in 43 years, and for the first time in our history, our founder has put his signature on it.
The PMG Signature SACD player is a triumph of engineering, designed to extract every nuance and detail from your CDs and SACDs with unparalleled precision. With galvanically isolated outputs and an ultra-low jitter design, it brings your CD collection to life when paired with any DAC. And when connected via I²S, it unlocks the pure DSD layer of your SACDs, revealing what was previously hidden from external DACs.
It's not nostalgia. It's a revelation.
The PMG Signature SACD player is the ultimate disc playback system, worthy of its name and legacy.
Design
43 years after the introduction of the CD, PS engineers have continued their quest for perfection in the art of data extraction and transmission, so you can finally hear what's stored in your CD and SACD collection. The PMG Signature SACD transport is our most advanced optical disc transport yet. Our galvanically isolated output stage couples the drive mechanism's output to the PMG's internal digital lens with nothing more than a pulse of energy through space, eliminating any trace of noise or ground contamination. The results of this complete isolation are magical: a level of image separation, openness, and effortless reproduction never heard before. We've never experienced such low noise levels: a seemingly velvety black that has to be heard to be understood.
Application
Playback of CDs, data discs, and SACDs is unmatched by any other player we know of. CDs played through the PMG Signature SACD player come closer than ever to high-resolution PCM and DSD, revealing new levels of dimensionality, soundstage, depth, and musicality previously unattainable with other optical players or server-based audio systems. Like its predecessor, the PerfectWave SACD player, the PMG Signature opens the long-restricted DSD layer of SACDs to PS Audio DACs. The PMG will send the raw DSD layer of copyright-protected SACDs directly to your PS Audio DAC via I²S. That means you'll discover the richness of the ultimate digital audio format, DSD, and hear exactly what the mastering engineers who created these records always valued. Hear what you've been missing with the PMG Signature SACD player.
Overview
If you're like most of us, you still have a treasured collection of physical records. There's something timeless about opening a jewel case or removing a record from its sleeve: the feeling, the ritual, the music waiting inside. Even in the age of streaming, CDs, SACDs, and data discs often offer the best audio quality in a system when paired with a truly exceptional player. None is finer or better than the PMG Signature SACD player. This is our flagship product, defining the state of the art in record playback. From the first notes, you'll hear the extraordinary leap in quality it delivers. Its secret? A fully galvanically isolated output stage physically and electrically separates the delicate digital audio stream from the noisy environment, dramatically reducing jitter and noise. Hear more from your records than you ever imagined with the PMG Signature SACD player, the best we've built in over forty years.
Galvanic Isolation
Unlike the relatively quiet environment enjoyed by analog electronics, digital audio equipment is inherently noisy. Digital timing clocks, operating at speeds comparable to those of radio transmitters, present a serious challenge when the goal is a clean, jitter-free digital audio stream. Engineers have spent decades experimenting with shielding, grounding, and isolation techniques to tame this noise—not just to meet regulatory limits, but to achieve true sonic silence.
The most effective solution? Physical separation and complete electrical isolation. Standard digital audio subsystems rely on cables for signal and power, which radiate high frequencies and worsen background noise. The PMG Signature SACD transport takes a different approach. Its output stage is both physically and electrically isolated: no cables, no shared ground path, no common power supply. Inside, two completely independent power supplies perform separate functions: one for the noisy internal electronics, the other exclusively for the ultra-quiet output stage. Signal transfer between the two occurs via a focused, short-wavelength radio link, eliminating interference and preserving the purity of the audio data.
The result is extraordinary. With the PMG Signature SACD player, musical details once drowned out by noise and jitter finally come alive.
DSD Master Grade
The introduction of SACD (Super Audio Compact Disc) by Sony/Philips in 1999 marked the beginning of a new high-performance audio format. Not since the first Compact Disc in 1982 had there been such a significant improvement in digital audio performance. With SACD, digital audio took a leap forward, surpassing not only the Compact Disc but, for many, even the performance of analog. The technology behind SACD is DSD, a 1-bit recording system with a high sampling rate (2.8 MHz, or 64 times that of a CD) that achieves a signal-to-noise ratio of 120 dB and impeccable dynamics, without a trace of digital distortion. Unfortunately, the DSD layer on SACDs is locked and cannot be extracted from the disc for playback on an external DAC. That was until the introduction of the PMG Signature SACD Transport. The PMG, thanks to its I2S output, can directly connect the DSD layer to a PS Audio-compatible DAC. The results are extraordinary. Now SACD owners can connect directly to a master-quality source locked to the SACD master. This is a major breakthrough for music lovers everywhere. Hear what mastering engineers appreciate: the pure DSD master.
