The Squash armchair, with its generous and welcoming shapes, has a rigid trestle structure made of Polimex® supporting ample, soft cushions, upholstered in Pelle Frau® leather or a leather-fabric combination, and removable covers. The shell and legs are characterised by light padding that makes them pleasant to the touch. The base legs are covered in leather. The seat cushion and armrests are made of polyester wadding and differentiated-density polyurethane foam for greater comfort. The seat base is made of birch plywood.
The color combinations recommended by the designer for the Squash armchair are Cream, Sage, Blue, and Brown.
Concept and Design
Softness, boldness, and fun in a single collection: Squash, designed by British artist Faye Toogood, captivates with its irreverent ease, starting with its playful and sensual name, which reflects a soft and sculptural approach to design. The collection is comfortable and welcoming from first glance. Exuberant and bold yet gentle and reassuring shapes interact with different materials, both soft and rigid. The organic lines and soft padding subvert the static nature of formal furnishings. Typical elements of English folk are reinterpreted and mixed with 1970s influences. Squash proposes an idea of easy, modern elegance, made of unique objects that look good alone, together, or combined with other furnishings.
Designed by Faye Toogood
Faye Toogood is a British designer whose practice spans interior design, home objects, fine art, and fashion, refusing to be constrained by a single discipline or defined way of working. Faye studied History of Art at the University of Bristol and was interiors editor for The World of Interiors for eight years before establishing Toogood, her London-based design studio, in 2008. She has since become one of the most recognizable figures in the design and art industries, whose work has been exhibited and collected by museums around the world, including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, the NGV in Melbourne, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Corning Museum of Glass in New York, and the Fabergé Museum in St. Petersburg. Faye grew up in the British countryside. Her instinct and obsession with magpies and landscapes continue to permeate everything she designs, whether it's a bronze door handle cast from an abandoned skull, a fashion collection inspired by hay bales, or a home interior with the bleak palette of an English sky. Toogood brings a distinctly sculptural approach to the art of furniture design, with pieces like the 'Spade' chair and the 'Roly-Poly' chair achieving iconic status through their strong geometry and form. Describing herself as an "outsider" whose work defies categorization, Faye has created a studio that allows for movement between genres. Architects, sculptors, furniture makers, and illustrators intertwine on each project, producing rigorous, poetic, and genuinely avant-garde work.
